EPD for Space premium task chairs
We are excited to announce that we have developed and published Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) for our premium office chairs Space 1501, Space 1502, and Space 1522.
What is an EPD?
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a standardized and independently verified document that clearly presents the environmental impacts of a product in the declared stages of its life cycle. Depending on the scope of the specific EPD, it may assess impacts related to raw material extraction, manufacturing, transport, installation, use, and the end of the product’s life. This provides customers, architects, and planners with transparent and comparably structured data for their projects and decision-making.
The Rigorous Process Behind Our EPDs
Creating EPDs for our office chairs involved a rigorous process in collaboration with LCA Studio s.r.o., a renowned firm specializing in life cycle assessment. We meticulously gathered and analyzed extensive data on every component of our chairs and our own manufacturing processes, including:
- Materials used, their sources, and recycled content
- Transportation distances from suppliers to customers and to waste disposal sites
- Energy and fuel consumption
- Waste generated and disposal methods
- Emissions of pollutants
- End-of-life scenarios, detailing recyclability and potential reuse
This comprehensive approach required close collaboration across multiple departments within our company and with our suppliers and other business partners to ensure accuracy and completeness of the data.
Independent Verification
After collecting and evaluating all the necessary data, our EPD underwent independent verification within the International EPD System. As a result, it provides customers, architects, and planners with transparent and reliable information about the environmental impacts of our products, which they can use when selecting solutions and designing their projects.
